Tile Floors

There are a myriad of options when it comes to tiles: porcelain, marble, slate, natural stone, rectified, external and decorative. Tiles are a low maintenance flooring solution and are suitable for everything from your kitchen floor, splashbacks, laundries and foyers to busy international airport terminals!

Tips for selecting tiles

When you are choosing your tiles ensure you match the needs of the room with the properties of the tile. For example, entrance areas will need a more robust tile than in quieter en suites, so ask your Independent Floors store if the tiles you like are suitable for use in the area you plan to install. One measure of the wear ratings of tiles is the Porcelain Enamel Institute (PEI) rating.

The PEI rating scheme was developed to give consumers guidance on the wear expectations for specific tiles.
As a guide, a tile with a PEI rating of 1 is suitable for floors that will be walked on with bare feet, or soft shoes, such as a bathroom. Whereas tiles with a PEI rating of 5 are much more robust and are perfect for heavy traffic areas such as entrance halls.
